Luton is at significant risk of losing the stories of its Factory workers, their skills and the impact they through their work on the town. Many of the larger factories shut over fifty years ago and have been repurposed for commercial/ residential use as well as deteriorating due to just being left unused. The risk of losing the stories of the workers in those factories due to old age is great due to the age of the workers during a time of industrial prosperity and industrial growth. These personal memoirs, lived experiences and unique insight into working in a Luton hat factory during this time, are unrecoverable and irreplaceable, and this project has provided a new way to save, archive and future-proof this heritage to not only share with the public but preserve and celebrate the legacy the town holds.
